Lionel 1666 Vintage O 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive & Tender – Model Train Junction: Quality Parts and Art Supplies

Here is a Lionel 1666 Vintage O 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive & Tender. The 1666 locomotive has the following standard features: a 2-6-2 wheel arrangement with a black-painted, die-cast boiler, full complement of detailed driving wheel hardware, nickel-rimmed spoked drive wheels, die-cast trailing truck, three-position E-unit, headlight, wire handrails plus an ornamental bell and decorative whistle. The 1666 does not have a smoke unit. The 6466WX tender features an operating whistle, a plastic shell, die-cast staple-end trucks with electromagnetic couplers, and metal wheels and axles.

Brought onto the scene in the late 19th century and continuing use into the early 20th century, the 2-6-2 was a durable little model with some even surviving through the first World War seeing continued use in smaller capacities. These models were used for a variety of purposes from hauling coal loads to pulling smaller passenger cars. The North American model soon became known as the “Prairie” model and would quickly become a favorite in rail-yards around the world!

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-5: Good based on visual appearance. The cab roof shows nicks and spots of paint loss. The hand rails show a it of tarnish. One marker jewel is missing and housing is damaged. There is wear & tarnish on the wheels and pickups from previous use. This item has been inspected by our repair shop. Please see the attached picture for inspection details and additional operation information. The reversing unit and light are non-functional. The whistle works but sounds rough at lower voltages.
